2015 Mercedes AMG Team

Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 TeamMercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team is early odds on favourite to win the 2015 World Constructors’ Championship. A full 2 months before the season, bookmakers priced them 1/4 (1.25 decimal odds / -400 American odds). That has punters standing to profit only 25% of their amounts staked on a successful wager.

The reason for such small odds have a lot to do with last season’s outcome. The 2014 World Driver’s Championship wasn’t even close. Mercedes AMG won with 701 points. That was almost more points than the runner up Red Bull (405 points) and third place Williams (320 points) earned combined.

Recent Mercedes GP F1 Racing Statistics

The current drivers for Mercedes AMG are Nico Rosberg and 2-time World Drivers Champion Lewis Hamilton. They have been on same team since Hamilton moved to Mercedes in 2013, thus 2015 is their third season together. Last season Lewis Hamilton (384 points) won the World Drivers’ Championship while Nico Rosberg (317 points) finished second. Both are talented drivers, and will remain favourites for as long as Mercedes AMG continues to field the most competitive cars.

The Numbers

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg combined to win 16 out of 19 races last season. They had the pole in 18 out of 19. Their individual (not team) podium percentages were 84.2% and 78.9%. Such numbers should clearly speak for themselves and little more needs to be written about them.

Mercedes AMG Standings in the World Constructors Championship

As mentioned Mercedes dominated the WCC standings in 2014. In 2013 they were second. While they had the same two starting drivers both seasons, the cars used were vastly different in each In 2014 F1 changed to using V6 Turbo Charged engines. Mercedes already had a good track record fielding competitive cars but in 2014 were absolute studs. In 2015 they are expected to be well ahead of the field as well.

Mercedes AMG World Constructors Championship Futures Bets

One might suspect it is difficult to find value with Mercedes offered only at 1/4 odds (1.25), but they are truly deserving of those odds. This season due to many rule changes again, the team is set to debut a new car known as F1 W06 Hybrid. You would think going to a new car adds risk, as last season their car was so dominate. However, despite their dominance last season, there were several areas their car was not even at the maximums. The areas they are expected to improve and much more about the F1 W06 Hybrid can be found in this thread.

Despite the short odds, my strong gut feeling is Mercedes easily wins the 2015 World Constructors Championship. If able to find better than 7/1, McLaren-Honda is the only other team I might consider in 2015. It is likely to be a rebuilding year for Ferrari. The dark horse candidate is Red Bull, while of course Williams has some shot at an unlikely win. In short, Mercedes truly is well ahead of the field on this one and despite the short odds is still probably worth a punt.
